One thing that immediately stands out is the significant workload teachers are shouldering, with many working 50 or more hours every week. This is particularly striking given the positive attitudes expressed by teachers and principals towards their schools. What makes this particularly fascinating is the contrast between the high workload and the perceived lack of time for teachers to meet students' needs. This raises a broader question: How can we ensure that all students have access to safe and comfortable learning environments? The survey also reveals concerns about teacher pay and school funding, with teachers expressing the impression that compensation and funding emerged as recurring concerns. This is particularly interesting, as it suggests that teachers are aware of the financial pressures facing schools and are concerned about the sustainability of their profession over time. In my view, the survey highlights the need for a comprehensive approach to addressing the challenges faced by teachers in North Carolina. This includes providing adequate funding and resources for schools, addressing concerns about student behavior and family support, and ensuring that teachers have the training and support they need to provide the best possible education for our children. The survey is a wake-up call for all of us, and it is up to us to take action to ensure that the teachers in our state have the support they need to succeed.
